Helen Brocklehurst
I have been painting since childhood. I like atmosphere - early light and evening light, stark shadows, frosts and oncoming storms - and I like watching the weather, especially clouds. I always paint from photographs I have taken or from memory. I think colours are the most important aspect for me to try and capture, and I have found infinite shades of blue, and the soft distinctive golds, rusts and purples of the shores and hills.
Previous commissions have included a series of prehistoric landscape reconstructions for The Princes Trust, wall murals for restaurants, and many portraits of animals, pets and children in watercolour. I hope one day to paint Irish landscapes full time. I was born on 1974, in Derby, England. I spent seven years in Aberystwyth where I gained a degree and doctorate in International Politics before moving to Northern Ireland to work as a researcher at the University of Ulster and then the University of Wales at Swansea.
