Ray Robinson

Born in London in 1938, and evacuated to Bognor, Sussex during the war where he spent his school years.

Qualified as an electronics engineer in 1960 and, in that capacity, worked in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Canada. During this time he met his wife, Eva in Cyprus, married and has three children.

He came to Donegal in 1978 to supply and service the Irish Fishing Fleet, which he did until relatively recently.

An interest in art during his "teen years was given impetus with a 21st birthday give of oils, a medium he has felt comfortable with ever since. He continued to pursue his passion for painting throughout his life and after completing marine commissions for several boat owners in Co. Donegal, and as demand for his work increased, he commenced painting and exhibiting full time in early 1998.

Always a keen angler, many of his paintings reflect his love of wild places whether coast or mountain lough in storm or calm, attributes readily found in County Donegal.

Works exhibited in:
  • The Glebe Gallery - open exhibition (Prize Winner 1999).
  • Sligo Art Gallery, Sligo.
  • The Saturn Gallery, Letterkenny.
  • The McGilloway Gallery, Derry (inc. solo exhibition 2000).
  • Taylors Gallery, Sligo.
  • Christeph Gallery, Letterkenny.
  • The Gallery, Dunfanaghy.
  • Desk and Easel, Donegal town.

His paintings have gone to Europe, USA, South America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
